kiPas 1.0 for PlayBook
December 1st, 2011 § 14 Comments
Finally it’s here!
The much-anticipated KiPas 1.0.0 for PlayBook has been submitted to BlackBerry AppWorld.
The PlayBook now have a real KeePass application to manage passwords, this comes in handy to compensate the browser’s lack of password manager.
With KeePass, you can fully decrypt and safely read your KeePass 1.xx DB on the PlayBook, allows easy copy/paste of your passwords.
I tested this version at length and you can safely use it to read your KeePass DB without risking any corruption or loss of your data.
This first version is read-only and doesn’t supports KeePass 2.0 databases.
Early birds will get the app at a special discount price of 1$, so go get it soon!
Try it before you buy, download the app compiled for your PC/MAC desktop by clicking the AIR install badge below:
Features:
Open KeePass 1.xx format databases.
Supports Rijndael encryption, not Twofish.
UI specially designed for tablets.
Easy copy/paste of usernames, passwords and URL from the KeePass DB to any application using standard PlayBook ClipBoard.
Browse your databases entries through a full groups and subgroups tree.
Visualise your databases groups and passwords creation/access/change log data.

Figured out where the Database was being searched from. When will this go live on the AppWorld?
Happy to hear you found how to solve… the doc is still baking
Right now the app is held for validation by our partner (RIM), specifically, I didn’t foresee that my app needed a special export or import permit in some countries because it is using cryptographic technologies.
The app won’t be released worldwide at a specific date, the availability will depend on each country’s laws in regard to cryptographic software, it could range from a few days to max a month… I hope for the sooner…
Meanwhile I keep working on the app, so if you see anything you would like to be fixed, just post a comment
Is there any way you can save the location where you pull the .kdb file from, or have it revert to the last known folder. I know its quibbling but its a pain to look for my file every time. Thanks!
Hi Jason, the location of the .kdb file is already saved, the component just to the left of the DB Browse button is a combo box, clicking on the little downward pointing arrow drop downs a list from which to select one of the last opened DB. I didn’t add the same for the KeyFile, as I thought this is a file one might want to keep hidden…
Hello, will this app support KeePass 2.x databases files in near future?
Thanks
KeePass 2.x is on the RoadMap, but the highest priority is now to polish the DB create and edit featues for KeePass 1.xx databases, so I cannot give you a release date yet…
Recommend you set up a notification system that lets a potential user put in their email and their country so you can have it automatically do a mail send when that particular country is approved. Just a thought and thanks for a great app!
Hi Jason, nice idea for the notification system, unfortunately, I don’t see realy clearly which countries will be impacted and which one not… It seems like France will have to wait a bit… but anyway, in the end everybody will have access to the app
France is the only country where KiPas is not yet available.

Brilliant:) I’m very much looking forward to the 2.xx version.
Thanks heaps for this work.
While I use KeePass2, I could use this by exporting to v1.
When I tried your desktop version I had a problem finding the data file. The screen that opens when I hit Browse won’t scroll past the last item at the bottom on the window. If the window isn’t tall enough to show all folders and the folder needed is off the screen, I can’t get the data file.
Does the Playbook version have this problem? If it doesn’t I’m ready to buy (while looking forward to V2 compatibility).
The desktop version is now outdated, performance is way better on the PlayBook. Nobody ever reported any troubles with the files browser, on the desktop, it behaves as a touch UI, so you should click-hold-swipe to scroll the list.
I might update the desktop version someday, but this has the lowest priority, focus is PlayBook.
